Thiruvattar Adhikesava Perumal Temple The Adikesavar temple at Thiruvattar which is noted for its ezquisite workmanshiip in stone and wood. The Thiruvaalimaarbar temple at Thiruppathisaram, the birth place of Nammalvar are the two centres in the district among the108 shrines sacred to the Vaishnavites in India. The temple at Keralapuram where the image of Vinayaka changes its color half-yearly, the rock-cut-temple at Thirunandikkarai of Archaeological importance, the temple of Thirpparappu with the sparkling waterfalls, the shrine of Bagavathy at Karungal where the image of Lord Siva holding deer and axe in his hand has been enshrined in the sanctum, the shrine of Thipparamalai containing a rare image of Sri Krishna of 14 feet in height and the rare shrines of Avvaiar, the divine poetess of Tamilnadu are some of the less-known temples in the district. Like Kanyakumari the three oceans meet, the district of
Kanyakumari also accommodates the different faith in its bosom. There
is epigraphic evidence to show that there was a reputed Jain centre at
Thiruchcharanathumalai (chithral) where a number of disciples were trained
by the the nuns to preach Jain dharma among the people in different parts
of the country during 9th Century A.D.
