The
beautiful Gandhi Memorial completed in 1956 is situated here as a memorial
to "Father of the Nation", the memorial is a good example of
modern architecture. An urn containing Gandhiji's ash is kept here for
public to pay homage, Architecture of the building allows sun rays to
fall on the exact spot, where the urn was kept on 2nd October, Mahatma
Gandhi's birthday. It resembles an Orissan temple. Built in memory of
Gandhiji, the memorial is good example of modern architecture. Here, the
last remains of Gandhiji are kept for public viewing. Next to the Kumari
Amman Temple, this striking memorial stored the Mahatma's ashes until
they were immersed in the sea.
