much expected Shankar - A.R.Rahman combo's Boys
audio released. They are known for huge budget films and catchy
youthful songs and Boys is not an exception. For A.R.Rahman,
after the recent failures like Parasuram, media and his fans doubted
that he lost his magic. But he's back with a bang in Boys
with electrifying youthful songs.
The
Album begins in a grand manner with "Girl Friend"
sung by Karthik and lyrics by Pa.Vijay.
Karthik sounds better and better with every song and he has sung
three songs in this album. This is a typical Rahman song with nice
beats and the guitar parts in the interludes are excellent. This
song is the pick of the album.
"Dating"
by Blaaze and Vasundhara Das and penned by Pa.Vijay. The
song starts off slowly and suddenly picks up with Blaaze's rap style
English lyrics. It’s a catchy song and you'll love
it in the first listening itself. When the charanam part
comes, thirukkural (extracted) "muganaga natpadhu..."
and "karkka kasadara..." sounds really cool with English
lyrics and western beats.
Next
Comes "Boom Boom" by Adnan Sami
and Sadhana Sargam, lyrics by Kabilan.
This is a very catchy song, and it starts with some knocking sounds.
Though this song sounds cool in Adnan's voice, when the charanam
comes the words like "Kayalaankadaiyil" sounds very funny
in Adnan's voice and it’s very hard to understand
the pronunciations. In the final part there are some unusual
music and sounds that you'll wonder if there is any problem with
your music system.
"Secret
of Success" sung by Lucky Ali, Vasundhara Das, Blaaze and lyrics
by Vaali. It has a catchy and energetic rhythm, the song
is not very catchy but it will grow on you after coupler listening.
The starting of the song has some resemblance with an Eminem and
Backstreet Boys songs. The Song is very well sung by Lucky
Ali and others and the "Ohoo... We are the boys" part
is mind blowing, its one of the best songs in the album.
"Ale
Ale" sung by Karthik and Chithra Sivaraman and lyrics
by Kabilan. This is the only song of the album
which has some good lyrics without single English word.
It’s fabulously sung and the ale ale part is nice, when the
"kadhal sonna kanamae..." part comes it reminds us the
baba song. After hearing some heavy beat songs, this song
sounds sweet.
"Maro
Maro" sung by Karthik, Kunal, George, Anupama
and Sunitha. Lyrics by Vaali and the song
starts like a Hindi song with words like "maro maro chowka
chakka se maro...”. Drums and electric guitars are
very well used in the prelude and throughout the song by Rahman.
The song is supposed to be sung by the boys in an India Vs Australia
cricket match with 500 drums and dancers in the movie.
Overall
it’s a mind blowing album with some refreshing music. But
the problems with the songs are too many English lyrics and the
Tamil pronunciations of singers like Adnan Sami. Thank
god they've given the complete lyrics with the Cassettes & CDs
otherwise it would be very hard to identify the words in songs like
Secret of Success.
It
looks like the movie is based on the music and aimed at the youngsters
and A.R.Rahman has done his job excellently and quite effectively.
It seems like youngsters are already hooked with the songs and the
cassettes & CDs are already selling like hot cakes.
