After successful musical hits like “thulluvatho ellamai” and “Kadhal konden” Yuvan-Selvaraghavan combo are back with their third venture 7G Rainbow Colony.
The songs are of mixed bag…you will either love it or hate it but cannot ignore it!!!
Naam vayadhukku vandhom - Unnikrishnan, Yuvan, Shalini, Ganga
This one is a foot-tapping number aimed at young generation. The prelude tune is very catchy but the tune to the line “ni baby engirai” is similar to “oru Poona one na patha”(composed by Deva) from Khushi.
The interlude consists of English words like “cigarette”, ”channel” , ”figure”, ”feb 14”, ”cycle gap” but the pace of the song is fast and holds your interest.. Unni Krishnan who usually sings carnatic songs has sung this fast number with perfection. Shalini and Ganga, the female playback, have done a decent job, Yuvan also blends his voice nicely..
“naam vayaudhukku vandom” will fancy the youngsters with its fast paced tune and modern lyrics.
Kan Pessum – Karthik
Kan Pesum has excellent lyrics by N A Muthu Kumar wonderful tune but the prelude tune reminds me of A R Rahman’s song “Ennai kollaiyittup poagum azhage vai” in Jodi.
Another highlight in this song is Naveen’s flute. Karthik has rendered beautifully, with the lyrics mentioning the pain of love, Karthik voice justifies this wonderful composition.
Idhu Poarkalamaa – Harish Raghavendra
“idhu porkalama” is the best song of this album. Yuvan-Harish combination has always created magic no wonder this song will also be added to their hit list. The song has fast paced beats with metal guitars and decent lyrics.
Harish has sung this song with full of emotion, and he has also nicely modulated his voice…only negative point in this song is that it is too short only 3 minutes…this song is bound to be next “devathiya kandein”
A Typical Yuvan song!!!!
January Matham – Kunal,Matangi
This song is quite a disappointment… the loops used are ripped from Michael Jackson’s track. Though the song has some fast beats and starts of quite well but it is the interlude that disappoints. The lyrics are also not worth mentioning.
Ninaithu Ninaithu – Shreya Ghosal , KK
This song has two versions. One sung by shreya ghosal the other by KK. The song starts of with a beautiful piano melody. This remind me of the days of “Legend Illayaraja”.
The Lyrics are good but it is the singing that falters. Both shreya and KK are not good at Tamil and their pronunciation is awkward. But the soulful tune makes it for the singing.
On the whole a nice melody track from Yuvan and this song will be appreciated by elite masses.
Kanaa kaanum - Madhumitha, Haris Raghavendra, Ustad sulthan khan
This song will have few takers. A slow song with excellent lyric and good vocals from Madhumitha and well supported by Harish. Ustad sultan’s alaap is also worth mentioning. The interludes where the violins appear are nicely orchestrated by Yuvan.
Again this song might not be favored by all.
Music of joy and Walking through the rainbow
Music of joy though a instrumental has some verse sung by Harish Raghevendra. It starts with a promising but loses in the middle, anyway nice experimentation by Yuvan. Walking through the rainbow is the theme music which is currently being aired in the trailers Simple tune but effective..It is nice to see Yuvan doing instrumental tracks...
To sum up Yuvan-selvaraghavan combo have hit gold…Their musical is sure to be appreciated and this will ensure a big opening for the film in box office…
VERDICT
: A must buy for Yuvan fans and also music lovers
